Getting Heads to Nod: Facilitating Transition to Population Health

Challenge

Baton Rouge Medical (BRG) Center faced multiple external pressures and challenges as a result of sea change in the external environment, and in particular, the state’s charity care system. Complex issues drove the organization’s need to set a new direction for their future, and leaders needed a compelling way to educate and engage a variety of internal and external audiences in support of future plans.

Strategy and Tactics

To help illustrate the innovative journey ahead for BRG, Lovell created a series of infographics to help BRG provide information, content and context to the complex strategies of the organization’s plans:
  • Going from Volume to Value
  • Network Development
  • Clinical Integration
  • Innovation in Healthcare Delivery
After printing and traditionally sharing the infographics, BRG incorporated the infographic artwork into PowerPoint slides and handouts for board-level strategic planning deliberations and medical staff discussions. The artwork was then segmented into highlights and repurposed for internal education sessions, employee forums, CEO roundtables and other events with leaders, front line and support staff.

Following internal education and buy-in, BRG used components of the infographics as they publicly unveiled their strategic plans in a report to the community (circulated in print and posted online). The report, along with a complementary slide deck, was shared in community stakeholder meetings, editorial board meetings and various public forums. Elements of the infographics were utilized in more than 20 communications tools including websites, e-blasts, printed collateral, presentations, employee newsletters, media tool kits, invitations and more.

Results and Client Response

“I was very impressed and pleased with the information and presentation quality of our infographics. You and your team managed to take very complex issues and make them understandable and enjoyable to read. After only a couple of minutes of reading, a “civilian” can understand the concepts and benefits of things like clinical integration and the move from volume to value.”
